Harry Potter Love
I still sort-of remember the day I “met” Harry Potter. I was in 5th grade and studying at Glenside Weldon in Philadelphia. My teacher, Mr Portman, had several shelves of books in our homeroom. One day, during reading time (my favorite part), he took out the first Harry Potter book and read it to us. That was the year 1999.
Then we came back to Manila and I forgot Harry Potter (I was stuck in the Sweet Valley and Nancy Drew world). Incidentally, I had a friend who had all the books available at that time (I think it was books 1-4). I borrowed all the books, read them in a few days’ time and I was hooked. For a while. Since it took a while for the next book to come out, Harry Potter moved to the farthest part of my mind.
When I went to college, fan fiction became a huge part of my reading life — along with my college friends. We searched and searched for stories online and even printed them out! I remember collecting scratch paper and using those to print pages and pages of fanfics.
Amazingly, it’s been more than 10 years, and it’s now coming to a close. So, here’s to Harry Potter, and I hope I get to watch the last movie soon! *Fingers crossed.*
